Promoting Sensible View Preservation Here in "Green Trees" Estates

We're residents who wish to preserve the vision of Founder Frank Vanderlip and the Olmsteds' historic design of our city, wherein all of Nature works together to create beauty as a whole, with no singular aspect / view taking precedence over another. Random removal of our trees to increase one homeowner's sale price not only lowers home values for the entire city, it leaves the community looking like the kid with the bad haircut. Sensible view preservation means minimizing both tree and ocean view loss with regular tree trimming and prudent removals, ideally according to a master plan. At a time when every city in America is trying to ADD trees, our mission is to PRESERVE healthy community trees to enhance all views, because in PVE, trees have always been part of the view. It's in all city literature and in the name of our town: "Green Arbors Estates." We support policies that thoughtfully promote continued care to preserve our founders' vision of a city adorned in natural wonder. After all, Trees by the Sea are exceedingly rare--it's us and Carmel / Monterey. Those cities understand what they have, and guard it.
Why do you live in Palos Verdes Estates?
Consider beautiful Coastal Rancho Palos Verdes: same coastline, same great schools, and unobstructed ocean views from every house ... yet on average it costs 30% more to buy a home in PVE. The only real difference: Trees. Like the trees in Carmel, the trees of PVE elevate all our home values. Wh
When one homeowner removes public trees to create a new ocean view so they can sell for more, it subtracts charm from the rest of the city. With no limits, everyone will do it, and ultimately we'll lose our trees, bringing home values down for all. To preserve the Olmsted / Vanderlip vision, we must remember that no "type" of Nature view takes precedence over another.
